Academic Overview

Nazareth Academy is a place where academic stars learn to shine. We are proud of many students who receive academic scholarships from the nation’s finest universities, and the extremely prestigious National Merit Scholarship.

We are prouder still that, with very few exceptions, every graduate goes on to higher education. They come from a diverse range of academic backgrounds, and many are the first in their family to attend college. The Academy teaches every student to achieve her best.

Our All Regents curriculum was developed in accordance with New York State Education Department guidelines, and the school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

Every Academy student takes a full complement of English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, physical education and religious studies each year. They also take at least one full credit in the fine arts.

Academy Academic Advantage

  • Individual attention. Average class size is 18-24, all students have a faculty mentor throughout high school.
  • In-depth learning. “Block scheduling” makes three of each day’s six class periods 80 minutes long for extra teaching and discussion.
  • Academic Development. Students may access teachers for extra help in an academic development period offered during the academic day.
  • An Integrated Library Media Center. The library media specialist works with teachers and students to provide print, non-print, and electronic material that support all of the curriculum areas taught at the high school level.
  • Academic partnerships. We work with area universities and employers to enrich the academic experience and keep Academy students on track for “real-world’ achievement.
  • Advanced technology. The Academy has one computer for every four students, high-speed Internet access in every room, “smart-room” technology for distance learning, updated labs for biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science and robotics.
  • Science and engineering strength. The area’s only engineering program for high-school women, college-level environmental studies, more than 80 percent of Academy students take physics.
