The Arts - Music
Students learn and appreciate the beautiful gift of music through
general music classes, instrumental instruction and choral ensembles.
The NYS Standards of singing, performing, creating, and analyzing
are clearly met in the daily instruction at Nazareth Hall by a highly
trained musical staff.
Classroom
Students in PreK-5 music classes learn the basic fundamentals of
music through singing, playing instruments, listening to music,
and creating their own original compositions. Proper vocal techniques
including diction, breathing, and pitch are also taught. Students
participate in movement activities and have opportunities to play
Orff xylophones, percussion instruments, and a variety of authentic
African drums. There is also a strong emphasis on music appreciation.
Students learn about classical composers such as Beethoven, Bach,
and Handel, and they also attend several concerts such as the RPO.
Students in Grades 3-5 also play the recorders which provide a strong
introduction to our instrumental program.
Chorus/Musical Productions
All students participate in our school musical productions at Christmas
and spring. Our choruses include Pre K, K, 1 and 2, and 3,4,5. Our
concerts include multidisciplinary aspects of musical performance
such as choreography, dance ensembles, ribbon-wands, staged hand
movements, props and costumes, as well as computer-generated visuals
such as PowerPoint presentations to accompany our grand finales.
Concerts are held at Naz. Academy Auditorium complete with lights,
sound, scenery, and a feeling of a little Broadway!
Instrumental
Students in Grades 4, 5 can participate in private music lessons
after school. They may select to play a variety of instruments such
as flute, clarinet, saxophone, percussion, brass, etc. These students
also participate in our Band ensemble, which also performs at our
concerts. Students learn to read notes, proper fingerings, breathing
techniques, and intonation. They also learn cooperative skills by
performing in an ensemble.
Musical Theater/Drama Productions
Students may participate in Naz. Hall Theater Arts Productions.
Students attend after school rehearsals and learn basic theater
skills, expression, communication skills, dance movements, and singing.
Past productions include "Life Love and Hope", and "Life
is a Cycle" performed by a spirited cast of 30 students.
