The Arts - Music

Students have several opportunities to participate in music through general music classes, chorus, band, and through individual music lessons.

Chorus

Chorus is offered as an elective to all students sixth through eighth grades. Music selections are varied to promote interest and exposure to a wide variety of musical styles and to create a foundation for love of music. School concert performances are given several times a year in which students are expected to participate.

Middle School Band

Middle School Band is offered as an elective to develop some technical music skills with an instrument of their choice. Emphasis is placed on learning how to read music, working as a team, and individual musical expression. Students are expected to give a public performance at one of the school concerts.

Instrumental Music Lessons

Small group and individual lessons are generally scheduled weekly to teach basic theory and enhance technical practice on band instruments. These lessons are open to all students 6-8; students in band are expected to further their music development by taking lessons offered by the music department.
