Academic Intervention Services

  • Nazareth Elementary provides academic support services for students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 through the Academic Intervention Services (AIS) program. AIS staff includes two full-time learning specialists for reading and math and a part-time instructor provided by the Rochester City School District for students with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs).

Students at Nazareth are assessed regularly to determine whether Academic Intervention Services are needed through individual, state, and standardized tests.

Children who qualify for AIS receive carefully planned small group instruction for 60 to 150 minutes per week. Nazareth’s learning specialists engage in ongoing communication with classroom teachers to ensure continuity between classroom content and the AIS program.

Students are evaluated regularly, and the need for continued services is determined by classroom performance and current assessment data.
